Artist Profile:

Interview by Peter Warenik

Adam Nitti is a 23 year old Florida native now living in Duluth, Georgia. He has been playing the electric bass for nearly ten years. Originally a classical piano player, he switched to the bass after getting into rock & roll. "My early hero was Geddy Lee (of the band Rush). As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for Lee and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, I don't think I'd be playing bass today," says Nitti.

As he matured musically, his tastes changed and he has become a lover of jazz/fusion and is the bass player in a local band called The Planktones. At the same time, Nitti also is a respected teacher and clinician and fronts his own electric quintet which showcases his original music.

Through all of these avenues, Adam's main goal is to get his name in the public eye. He is constantly pursuing endorsement opportunities to get his music to the forefront. Though he has not done any recording for a major label, he will be starting on an all original CD of his own music this summer. Says Nitti, "a recording contract would be nice, but I can't slow down on my other stuff-teaching, local jam sessions, my band. Songwriting is a big part of players.

With a solid musical background and a decade of experience behind him, Adam is looking forward to getting that one break which will put him over the top. Says this up and coming artist, "I'm going for it." With an attitude like that, we don't doubt he'll be where he wants to be-and soon!

Peter Warenik is the editor-in-chief for "Strictly Jazz" magazine.
